As a first time mom, I had no idea what I needed to care for my bundle of joy. And I am sure I am not the only one out there who has that same concern. So lets start with the basic baby care needs.

Diaper Change

If you are going to use cloth diapers you will need:

-A scent free laundry detergent

-Clothes pins or snaps

-Somewhere to store soiled diapers until you can wash them

-Baby powder and/or butt paste

If your going to use disposable diapers

-Baby powder and/or butt paste

You will need somewhere to put the baby on to change them.

Bath Time

-Wash clothes

-Baby soap (Johnson and Johnson is my favorite)

-Lotion (I had to lather my son up after every bath because his skin was so dry)

-A bathtub (I recommend getting one that has an infant insert)

-Nail-clippers (I had to cut my son's nails every couple days because they grow so fast)

Bedding and Sleep time

-A crib, bassinet, or pack n play (Somewhere safe for the baby to sleep. Many parents choose to have their little one sleep in their room with them for the first couple months. Because of how my house is set-up, my son didn't sleep in our room)

-A mattress that fits properly in the crib or bassinet

-Fitted sheets for the crib or bassinet (Make sure they aren't loose. They could become a chocking hazard if the baby rolls over)

-Swaddlers (My son looooved them for the first couple months)

-Blankets (Lightweight and heavy blankets. You can never have enough blankets)

-Mobile or Noise maker (My son doesn't sleep without a noise maker. It helps drown out any loud noises that could scare them and wake them up)

Feeding Time

-LOTS of burp clothes (My son had a very sensitive stomach and would throw-up constantly. I used cloth diapers as burp clothes and they were very absorbent)

-Bottles (I loved Dr. Browns bottles)

-A nursing pillow (Even though I didn't breastfeed for long, I loved using the pillow. My son used it for tummy time and when he was trying to sit up also)

-Breast pump (Normally insurances will cover the cost of one)

Baby Gear/ Activity Time

-Car Seat (My parents bought me a stroller and car seat bundle. I definitely recommend getting a infant carrier. Most hospitals won't let you leave without having an infant carrier)

-Swing (My son loved moving, so some nights that would be the only way to get him to sleep)

-Tummy Mat

-Walker (My son loved standing since he was born. He started walking at 6 months so this was the best thing we bought)

- Bumbo Seat (My son never liked to sit by himself so this helped a lot when trying to strengthen his muscles)

-Highchair (We live in a tiny 2-bedroom house so we got a highchair that can be folded and put away when not being used)

Having a baby can be very scary and exciting at the same time. Many first time parents have no idea of what they will need, but I hope after reading this it took care of your basic baby care needs.
